Important
Admission is restricted to 18+
(except for Careers in Animation Forum,
Kids Program, Teen Programs and
Animation 101 - #3)

Film classification regulations in Australia require all films to either be formally classified OR restricted to an audience of 18 years of age and over. Most festivals do not have the resources to do this and it is for this reason alone that we are not able to admit any person under the age of 18 years to the main MIAF screenings.

The Things She Can’t Avoid In The City
Wednesday 17 June, 8.15pm
acmi cinema 2
18+

Here is the program which gives those films with a lot on their minds an opportunity to say it. Sometimes a story just takes time to tell properly, sometimes the visuals are a feast that is best savoured, sometimes you just want the beauty or the laughter to keep going a little longer. This special collection of films make best use of every minute of their screen time and give you a chance to sit back, relax and ease into a longer film than the other competition screenings.

The Holly Feast
Anne Laure Daffis , Lio Marchand
France 2006, 15’30
A film of diverse visuality reflecting the equally diverse people that make their way to a special celebration.

The Things She Can’t Avoid In The City
Jee Youn Park
Korea 2007, 12’45
Her house is the cheapest in Oksu-Dong, but one day her house is lifted into the air by a huge crane. A film that explores the various balances and pitfalls of life in the city.

Tales Of The Old Piano -Ludwig van Beethoven
Vladimir Petkevich

Russia 2007, 13’00

A film as big and masterful as the great man himself. The filmmaker uses this obvious inspiration to fuel a spectacular visual palette of images that soar on the wings of some of Beethoven’s greatest works.

Three Love Stories
Svetlana Filippova
Russia 2007, 12’00
Utterly captivating classic Russian sketch styled animation. Three intertwining tales that gently waltz around each others’ peripheries in a dance of life.

Veterinarian
Signe Baume
Latvia 2007, 17’00
A story about a veterinarian whose heart breaks are told by a filmmaker who has well and truly mastered the ability to see her world through the oddest prisms. This and so much more.

Animal
Tatu Pohjavirta
Finland 2007, 28’00
Where to begin??? A woman doctor mixes up a small boy and a sheep during the chaos of a car accident. Clandestine midnight surgery only makes things worse (a lot worse!) Then there’s the wolf blanket…. that can’t be good! And how do you squeeze a lamb into a little jumper? And how do you teach a sheep to fly a kite? Maybe it’s just better to stick to the surface and make everybody wear fleeces and fake body suits. Or maybe not.
