Important
Admission is restricted to 18+
(except for Careers in Animation Forum,
Kids Program, Teen Programs and
Animation 101 - #3)

Film classification regulations in Australia require all films to either be formally classified OR restricted to an audience of 18 years of age and over. Most festivals do not have the resources to do this and it is for this reason alone that we are not able to admit any person under the age of 18 years to the main MIAF screenings.

MIAF08's Technique Focus is Puppet Animation
This most hands-on of techniques produces some of the most enthralling & fascinating animated films which dates back to the very beginnings of cinema. Breathing a kind of life into inanimate puppets is a very special form of magic and these two competition programs showcase the continuing vibrancy of this technique.

It takes skill and a very specific ‘determination to animate’ to even begin making a puppet film. The first signs of a re-emergence of classic style Russian puppet animation, the staging of a wildly successful international puppet animation conference in Estonia, word of a new film produced by Ray Harryhausen and the release of record numbers of wonderful indie puppet films inspired us to focus on this most hands-on of techniques this year.

Great advice from Mr William Shatner – “live life like you gonna die, coz you’re gonna”. Featuring an all star (although less than alive) cast including Johnny Cash, Albert Einstein, that guy from the Stones and Joey Ramone all sitting in on a special church service in The Ossiary, a church made famous by Svankmaijer because of the 40,000 human bones that decorate it.
