Important
Admission is restricted to 18+
(except for Careers in Animation Forum,
Kids Program, Teen Programs and
Animation 101 - #3)

Film classification regulations in Australia require all films to either be formally classified OR restricted to an audience of 18 years of age and over. Most festivals do not have the resources to do this and it is for this reason alone that we are not able to admit any person under the age of 18 years to the main MIAF screenings.

friday 20 June, 8.00pm acmi cinema 1

This program made possible with the generous support of Dennis Miller & Northeastern University Visual Music Special Collection, Boston, USA.

Visual Music is a distinct form of abstract animation in which the music and moving images are inextricably intertwined, the music often coming first and inspiring the visual action. Oskar Fischinger, Jordan Belson, John and James Whitney and Harry Smith are just some of the most famous practitioners but the contemporary VM scene is extremely vibrant.

One of the more high profile events to showcase this work in 2007 was the Visual Music Marathon held in Boston. This event was made possible by the Northeastern University Visual Music Special Collection which is making a substantial commitment to collecting and showcasing this artform.

MIAF invited Jean Detheux, Canadian based VM creator extraordinaire to single-handedly curate a Highlights collection from the Visual Music Marathon and this program is the beguiling result.
