catch up with friends and colleagues, check
out what’s on, talk toons, buy a catalogue,
vote for your favourite film, grab a drink or
something to nibble on, and take in some
special programming.

The Club will be the base for many of those
‘little moments’ that make a festival memorable.

Susan McMinn, a Melbourne based Director, will talk about the making of her film in selection “The Last Warhorse”, followed by a showcase of props and special effects from Annette Ringrose, Manager and Props Maker for The Props Store. Special UK visitor to the Festival, Emma Curtis, will screen her film “The Reason I Collect” and show some behind the scenes footage from the making of her film. .

Our speakers will be bringing along lots of props for you to see, touch and smell to inspire your next production, and are keen to answer questions so bring along those notebooks and fire away.

Show your MIAF ticket stub for a free glass of wine at the festival bar and stay as long as you like.

kid's club: pixel pinkie

Hey Kids!
Come on into the Festival Club after the Kids Program screening & join in some Blue Rocket fun.

Build your own rocket made of genuine cardboard and you can win a free badge and even a balloon made of some weird stretchy stuff!! (Try not to pin the badge to your balloon!)

And on the Club screen you can get a special sneak peak at the studio’s brand new TV series, Pixel Pinkie. Pixel Pinkie will be on TV on the Nine Network later this year. It’s the story of Nina who gets her first mobile phone. When she turns it on, a digital genie named Pixel Pinkie appears. Pixel Pinkie is able to make Nina’s wishes come true. Nina thinks this is totally awesome! And let’s face it, it is!!! Popularity, image and coolness are available at the touch of a button. School and home life concerns are fixed in the blink of an eye … but Nina quickly finds out that things seldom go to plan with Pixel Pinkie!

Be Fanous and Die, Simon O'Carrigan, Australia

australian filmmakers forum:
meet the filmmakers and q&a

The Australian Panorama (above) is ample demonstration of the creative strength and hands-on craft skills of Australian animators. It was one of the most difficult Australian Panorama’s we have had to pull together with a lot of very good work having to be left on the jury room floor. Many of the filmmakers who created the works in the Australian Panorama will join us in a panel to talk about their individual films, animating in Australia and take questions from the audience.

The aim is to get as many perspectives as possible on the local animation scene as it stands now as well as to discuss the challenges and opportunities for the future. The atmosphere is informal and relaxed. And audience participation is definitely encouraged.
