Every once in a while all you
really need is a hot chick in a tank. This one-of-a-kind movie took
the electric edge of the original British comic and turned it into
a post-apocalyptic-fearless-punk-badass classic complete with some
hefty splashes of comic art and a collection of brilliant animated
sequences.
Lori Petty playing the lead roll to the hilt, Naomi
Watts making an early career appearance as Jet Girl and Ice-T tricked
out as a mutant kangaroo are worth the ticket all by themselves.
The original comic artists, Alan Martin and Jamie
Hewlett, did a lot of the artwork and animation in the film (which
they famously hated and colourfully bad mouthed) and if Hewlett’s
name sounds familiar it’s because he went on to create the
hugely successful animated virtual band Gorillaz.
