Our special guest this year is one of the true legends
of the modern
creative animation scene, Chris Landreth.
Chris has been at the absolute forefront of computer
animation
development for a decade. Each of his previous films – ‘The
End’,
‘Bingo’ and ‘Ryan’ – represented ground-breaking
leaps in showing
what animation was capable of depicting.
‘Bingo’ (1998) essentially wrote the
bible on what the animating
software package Maya could really do when pushed to the limit
and ‘Ryan’ (2004) rewrote the bible bringing to the
screen a perfect
mix of style, substance and technical excellence.
Since ‘Ryan’ we have been waiting to
see what Chris would produce
next. And here in 2009 we have his latest film ‘The Spine’.
It brings
together Chris’s incredible directorial prowess and the technologies
of computer animating with a closer focus on a personal, fictional
storytelling.
In this very special guest presentation Chris will
screen ‘The Spine’, a reel of highlights from his previous
films and some works by other filmmakers that have provided him
with inspiration.
He will talk about these works, giving particular
insights into how he melds his uniquely creative visions with his
highly technical approach to produce them. An extended Q&A will
round out this opportunity to meet one of the most important people
working in our artform today.
