Like most festivals, we do not have the resources to classify films, and it is for this reason alone that we are not able to admit any person under the age of 18 years to the main MIAF screenings.

Last year we changed the format of opening night and it was an enormous hit... we take a collection of the hottest films from competition, mix them with some of our favourite classics from the special programs, add in a glimpse of the top new Australian films and round out the whole shebang with a couple of surprises that won’t be screening in any other part of MIAF.

Meet the festival’s Special Guest Chris Landreth whose previous film Ryan won an Academy Award and was Best Of The Fest here in 2005. On Opening Night Chris will give us a sneak preview of his latest film ‘The Spine’ and will also introduce ‘Spare Change’, the film that Ryan Larkin was working on when he died.
