Film classification regulations in Australia require all films to either be formally classified OR restricted to an audience of 18 years of age and over. Like most festivals, we do not have the resources to classify films, and it is for this reason alone that we are not able to admit any person under the age of 18 years to the main MIAF screenings.

The Last Warhorse

Each year an independent WIFT jury view the submissions and come up with their own program of highlights animated, directed or produced by women animators from all over the world.

WIFT is a Melbourne institution (and part of a global network) whose volunteers work tirelessly to support and celebrate the work of women in the screen based industries.

The screening will be followed by a Forum and Q&A session in the Festival Club (see below).

Admission age: 18+

After the WIFT Screening join us in the MIAF Club for a behind the scenes workshop at our Women in Production Forum.

Susan McMinn, a Melbourne based Director, will talk about the making of her film in selection “The Last Warhorse”, followed by a showcase of props and special effects from Annette Ringrose, Manager and Props Maker for The Props Store. Special UK visitor to the Festival, Emma Curtis, will screen her film “The Reason I Collect” and show some behind the scenes footage from the making of her film. .

Our speakers will be bringing along lots of props for you to see, touch and smell to inspire your next production, and are keen to answer questions so bring along those notebooks and fire away.

Show your MIAF ticket stub for a free glass of wine at the festival bar and stay as long as you like.

WIFT (Vic) aims to improve the status and representation of women in screen-based industries and to facilitate the exchange of information between members.
