Important
Admission is restricted to 18+
Except for:
Careers in Animation Forum
Kids Program
Kids Club: Dog Star in the Club
Felix the Cat
Film classification regulations
in Australia require all films to either be formally classified
OR restricted to an audience of 18 years of age and over.
Like most festivals, we do not have the resources to classify
films, and it is for this reason alone that we
are not able to admit any person under the age of 18 years
to the main MIAF screenings.

Wow – we made it to our 10th anniversary!!
We’ve received more than 12,000 entries, screened more than
2,500 films, had some of the most talented animators in the world
come and hang out with us – we must have learned something!!!
Four screenings review some of the hits, misses
and should-a-beens from those years - and, of course, how could
we go forward without including a program of Late Night Bizarre
highlights – you KNOW you want it!
Also see:
> 10 Years of Bizarre Highlights,
Thu 24 June 9pm
> 10 Years of Australian Highlights,
Sat 26 June 6pm
> 10 Years of Student Highlights,
Fri 25 June 5.15pm
> International Programs (in competition)
- see schedule

La Processus
Philippe Grammaticopoulos, Xavier L'Hermuzière
France, 2000, 8'00
One lonely figure in the marching horde
turns his head to see if there is a different view.
 |
 |
Overtime
O. Atlan, T. Berland, D. Ferrie
France, 2003, 5'00
A beautifully sinister herd of grey Kermit-like frogs slowly emerge
as the keepers of a dead man's body and – maybe – his
soul. |
 |
Son Of Satan J.J.
Villard
USA, 2003, 12'30
Inspired by a Bukowski short story, this
film takes us deep inside a bad situation and traps us as we watch
it get worse by the minute. |
 |
Ashputtle Or The
Mother's Ghost Susi Allender, Nag Vladermersky
Australia, 1999, 11'00
This is the film that provided the spark to create MIAF. A beautifully
crafted adaptation of an Angela Carter fairytale. |
 |
When The Day Breaks
Wendy Tilby, Amanda Forbes Canada,
1999, 9'30
One of the most beautifully crafted animated films ever made depicting
the life and death consequences of strangers bumping into each other. |
 |
Fallen Art
Tomek Baginski Poland,
2004, 5'45
The ingenious cruelty of a machine designed to capture an alternative
version of the cinematic moving image. |
 |
Aria Piotr
Sapegin Norway, 2001, 10'00
A simply stunning, though haunting, rendition of Pucini's "Madame
Butterfly" from one of the contemporary puppet animation masters. |
 |
Milch
Igor Kovalyov USA,
2005, 15'30
One of MIAF's favourite filmmakers. An extraordinary film tracing
a boy's discovery of familial mortality. Demanding and rewarding in
equal measure! |
 |
Jona Tomberry
Rosto
Holland, 2005, 12'15
Doppelgangers, stand-ins and alter-egos; reflection and repitition,
opposites and duplicates. Perhaps a partial self-portrait of a filmmaker
who made a very big impact at MIAF when he visited. |
