Important
Admission is restricted to 18+
Except for:
Careers in Animation Forum
Kids Program
Kids Club: Dog Star in the Club
Felix the Cat
Film classification regulations
in Australia require all films to either be formally classified
OR restricted to an audience of 18 years of age and over.
Like most festivals, we do not have the resources to classify
films, and it is for this reason alone that we
are not able to admit any person under the age of 18 years
to the main MIAF screenings.

(Films in competition) |
|
|
Programs of the best recently released films selected
from 2400+ entries received from all over the world. The MIAF
International Competition screenings are the backbone of the festival
line-up and your up-to-date snapshot of the incredibly diverse,
eclectic and vibrant independent animation scene.
In addition to 7 ‘open’ International
Competition screenings, there will also be programs in competition
that focus specifically on Australian talent, the digital community,
the purely abstract, long form, picks from SIGGRAPH 2009, the
incredible technique of direct to film or 'scratch' animation,
and of course, the cult program Late Night Bizarre.

Oranus
Jelena Girlin and Mari-Liis Bassovskaja
Estonia, 2009, 17'00
Grab the remote control and press a channel
button. Quickly…and senselessly…quickly…and…senselessly.
 |
 |
Jelly Fishers
Steven Subotnick
USA, 2009, 6'45
A family of hungry mole-like creatures
is saved by the generosity of jellyfish. |
 |
Orsolya
Bella Szederkényi
Hungary, 2009, 7'30
One day Orsolya discovers a sudden change
in her body, which literally turns her world upside down. |
 |
My Way
Veljko Popovic, svjetlan junakovic
Croatia, 2010, 7'00
Even though the boy will get many pairs of shoes in his life, each
pair seems to have a small stone in them. |
 |
Milovan Circus
Gerlando Infuso
Belgium, 2008, 9'00

as he prepares for another night not quite in the spotlight. |
 |
My Life In Your Hands
Nuno Beato
Portugal, 2009, 7'30
Working in the wings, the aspiring son
of a famous bullfighter meets the bull his father is about to face
– a moment that changes the fate of all three beings. |
 |
Postalolio
Marv Newland
Canada, 2009, 4'00
A film made entirely of hundreds of postcards that Marv had friends
and colleagues mail in to him from every corner of the globe –
even MIAF got roped in for a couple. We were happy to help and even
happier to screen the results. |
 |
Cracks
Alexis Ducord, Nicolas Pawlowski
France, 2008, 9'30
A growing fissure signals the gradual transition
from daydream to nightmare for a man with a way-too-strong attachment
to his plant. |
 |
The Texture Of Dreams
Florence Miailhe
France, 2009, 6'15
“The Texture Of Dreams” imposes its own path, in the same
way “Eve” did. It all depends on your fantasy, your partner,
the weather! |
