Film classification regulations in Australia require all films to either be formally classified OR restricted to an audience of either 15 years of age or 18 years of age and over, depending on the content of the program. Like most festivals, we do not have the resources to formally classify our programs/films, and it is for this reason alone that MIAF has a limited range of age restrictions.

(unclassified 15+)

Rippled > Darcy Prendergast
'Rippled' | Darcy Prendergast

A strong year for Australian animation. There is masterful CG, beautifully crafted puppet animation, and skilfully drawn work. All together it’s the most comprehensive look at a year of animatin’ in this wide, brown/green/wet land.

The stranger has but one humble little municipality left to chart before he can go home. There must be a reason this lost city has never been mapped before.

Rippled
Director/Producer: Darcy Prendergast

Australia, 3'57, 2011
An exciting, utterly absorbing ballet of light and movement emerging from the swamp, running a hundred late-night, back-alley gauntlets and then back to the swamp again.

Master of life and death. A mistake made in the flush of naïve youth. A gun pointlessly aimed at a noble creature of the night.

An intricately synchronised, exquisitely elegant chorus of lines – the purest form of animation perfectly performed.

The Last Photo > Lissa Pascale The Last Photo
Director/Producer: Lissa Pascale

Australia, 7'30, 2011
Just stunning! The filmmaker’s father went missing in action during the war. She always thought he was just across the sea, or over the mountain, just out of sight … and that is where she went to find him – to the end of the earth.
