Film classification regulations in Australia require all films to either be formally classified OR restricted to an audience of either 15 years of age or 18 years of age and over, depending on the content of the program. Like most festivals, we do not have the resources to formally classify our programs/films, and it is for this reason alone that MIAF has a limited range of age restrictions.

'The Missing Key' | Jonathan Nix

The ninth of twelve international programs showcasing the best new animation from all over the world, this one focusing on longer form films including Australian Jonathan Nix’s gem “The Missing Key” which was presented as a work in progress three years ago at MIAF 2009.

The Missing Key > Jonathan Nix

The Missing Key
Director: Jonathan Nix
Producers: Garth Nix, Anna McFarlane, Jonathan Nix

Australia, 29'55, 2011
We first saw this as a work-in-progress at MIAF 2010. Here is Nix's, now complete, tour of a gloriously re-imagined 1920's Venice.

I Have Fear / Ich Habe Angst > Mariola Brillowska

I Have Fear / Ich Habe Angst
Director/Producer: Mariola Brillowska

Germany, 15'00, 2010
I have fear! Of everything! I have fear of letters, keys, trains, rats! A cavalcade of constantly crescendo-ing ideas running one after another like so many freight train wagons latched together.

The Making Of Longbird > Will Anderson The Making Of Longbird
Director: Will Anderson
Producer: Donald Holwill

UK, 15'18, 2011
A behind-the-scenes look at the battle royale raging between an animator and a character that just won't do what it is commanded to.

Isle Of Spagg > The Brothers McLeod Isle Of Spagg
Directors: The Brothers McLeod
Producers: Helen Brunsdon, The Brothers McLeod

UK, 28'00, 2011
It's starting to rain fish, which seems, on the face of it, a bit of a God-send. But some fish are ALOT bigger than others and the first victim is the town's most unpopular grump, who nobody is really that unhappy to see the back of. A wonderfully sustained parade of whacky characters and blink-and-you-miss-'em surreal twists.
