RENDER Animation Conference Day 2  15+
The RENDER Animation Conference is a unique opportunity for filmmakers, educators, students and industry to engage with an impressive roster of international and local animation experts and practitioners. Day 2 includes:
> 'State of the Animated Nation: Animated Ads' moderated by XYZ Studio’s Tim Kentley-Klay (Aus)
> 'What Does a Doctor of Animation Operate On?' with Assoc Prof Andi Spark (Griffith University).
> 'The Art & Commisssioning of Simulation Animation' with biomedical animator Jack Parry (Aus) and Liz Roan (Education Manager, Poultry CRC) who commissioned AXS3d to create an award winning simulation of the 21 day chicken embryo gestation.
> How to Fund, Make & Distribute a True Indie Feature' mediated by Academy Award Winner Adam Elliot, with special guests Elliot Cowan (USA/AUS) & Chris Sullivan (USA).

Animate With Creative Coding

Create beautiful experimental animations using free software and computer code inspired by Norman McLaren’s evocative art. Participants will use the free open source software Processing, a creative coding platform, to develop unique, original and interactive animations.

> Don't forget to check out our special screening McLaren’s Influences - 100th Anniversary Tribute  15+ on Friday 20 June 8pm. This program acknowledges McLaren’s legacy by bringing together a collection of films by animators who have been clearly influenced by this true master of innovation.

'Teagan': Norman McLaren has done more than any other person to shape, define and extend the boundaries of creative animation. Born in Scotland 1914, McLaren was the multi-discipline genius who established the animation department at the National Film Board of Canada, arguably the single most important institution of its kind in the world. The NFB has since attracted and empowered multiple generations of outstanding animators and producers. McLaren’s unquenchable thirst for developing new techniques, saw him create an esteemed body of personal work that continues to inspire filmmakers across the globe. This program acknowledges McLaren’s legacy by bringing together a collection of films by animators who have been clearly influenced by this true master of innovation. 6.00pm
Australian Showcase  15+

As always, MIAF comes through with the most comprehensive look at the current Australian animation landscape with three big screening programs – the Australian Showcase, the Australian Panorama and the Australian Student Showcase. PLUS a whole lot of talks throughout the RENDER Conference and MIAF. All together it’s the most comprehensive look at a year of animatin’ in this wide land by our sensational local talent.

A diverse selection of the best new animated short films chosen from 2,900 entries!
MIAF’s international competition sessions are the backbone of the festival and screen almost daily throughout the festival, providing a comprehensive overview of the international indie animation scene. International Program #1 includes MIAF’s official opening film ‘SONATA’ (Nadia Micault – France), which is a captivating integration of several different digital animating technologies, showcasing what an artist can achieve playing in this realm.

Late Night Bizarre

Pulled fresh, moist and screaming from Animation Land’s groin-electrique comes the crazed cavalcade of instant anti-classics that make up this year’s Late Night Bizarre.
