Important
Admission is restricted to 18+
(except for Careers in Animation Forum,
Kids Program, Teen Programs and
Animation 101 - #3)

Film classification regulations in Australia require all films to either be formally classified OR restricted to an audience of 18 years of age and over. Most festivals do not have the resources to do this and it is for this reason alone that we are not able to admit any person under the age of 18 years to the main MIAF screenings.

The backbone of the annual AIAF mission! We received more than 2000 entries from every corner of the world and this collection of the best of them is your up to date snapshot of the international animation scene.

Procrastination
Johnny Kelly
UK 2007, 4’45
An over caffeinated avalanche of imagery dedicated to chronic non-starters of the world.

The Old, Old, Very Old Man
Elizabeth Hobbs
UK 2007, 5’00
What doesn’t kill you can only make you stronger – except for whatever kills you. An old reveals the secret to living a long life just before he dies.

Time Is Running Out
Marc Reisbig
UK 2007, 5’45
An intriguing continuous pan across a strangely active sepia-hued panorama

Running In Darkness
Alan Jennings
USA 2006, 2’15
A short, simple documentary telling the stories of people watching their ageing relatives succumb to slow onset of memory loss and dementia.
Bolides
F-X Bologna, T Bondoux, L Charmette, V Le Ster
France 2007, 5’30
The year’s best entry in the “two angry old men in a vicious wheelchair chase” category.

Life Is Sweet
Ray Lu
Australia 2007, 1’45
Beautifully drawn. A stream of excuses for bad behaviour and poorly thought out plans.

Heather
Edward Suckling
UK 2007, 5’15
A bold black and white film taking us to the very brink of sanity as we follow Heather through a tortured rationale only she could concoct.

For Annie
Amy Collen, Andy Collen
USA 2006, 6’00
With a subtle understated style, “For Annie” takes us on the gentlest of rides through the velvet madness of a classic Edgar Allan Poe tale.

In A Pig’s Eye
John Paul Molloy
Australia 2007, 5’15
Hell hath no fury like a butcher spurned. A crime of passion dripping in excess.

The Shoes
Wenchunng Lu
USA 2006, 3’00
Finalist 33rd Annual Student Academy Awards
Having the ultimate shoes would be great – but you don’t need them to win the race.

The Blue Shoe
Magnus Frederiksson
Sweden 2007, 5’00
The story of Stig the budding nature poet, the Blueberry King, and a girl who throws a mean blue shoe.

By A Badgered Tie
K Smissaert, M Van Wijk
Belgium 2007, 2’00
An entrancing painted dance of nature.

The Tourists
Malcolm Sutherland
Canada 2006, 2’45
They’re everywhere! All shapes and sizes – some of them are even on fire (good thing too!)
Blossom In Blue
AC Vives, G Arrighi, J Lenoble
France 2007, 5’00
Gershiwn’s classic ‘Rhapsody In Blue’ is but the starting point for this intensely detailed magnificently imagined bar-room pastiche.
Tar Boy
James Lee
Australia 2007, 6’15
A heartily told tale drawn straight the dark innards of the earth and brought to livid life – probably not the most soothing bedtime story for a small boy.
Killing The Fittest
Santosh Kale
India 2007, 3’30
It might be time to give cockroaches some respect – they might wind up outliving us. A super stylish look at the multi talented roach army that will inherit the earth.
Hezurbeltzak, A Common Grave
I Onederra
Spain 2007, 4’30
Try to imagine the result if Ralph Steadman went beastially surreal and decided to drag a certain famous mouse into this gnarled cauldron of visuality? That would be a start…..
