It happens every year! A parade of superb longer
animated films fly into our mailbox, make it onto our ‘must-show’
list and then gradually get nudged aside as the sinking lid of time
constraints falls across our programming. We can stand it no longer!!!
Longer films are tricky creatures to fit into programs made up of
the short miracles that fill the previous pages. But they offer
a much different experience, an opportunity to really get to know
a character, to richly develop a style or theme, or some time to
really grow comfortable in the make believe world into which you
step. Sit back and relax…….
A Room Nearby > Paul & Sandra
Fierlinger
USA, 2004 > 27'00
All of us have stories to tell and many of them take time to tell
properly. The Fierlingers have somehow managed to turn that magic
key that only the best filmmakers have – they have convinced
people to simply open a window into their lives. Legendary director
Milos Forman takes his turn but there are tales from mere mortals
as well; their stories no less compelling.
The Candles > Victor Azeev
Russia, 2003, 15'45
A family of candles gradually illuminate a room teaming with living,
animated objects in this surprisingly affecting pixillation masterpiece.
Every scene in the film contains a surprise, life is animated into
every object, real characters develop before our eyes.
Butterfly > Corin Hardy
UK, 2003 > 30'00
A film about Jesus, street drugs, a talking toilet and the ties
that bind us. The full story takes a long time to fully reveal itself
but all the ingredients are there from the first frame. Rich in
detail, this film exhales an atmosphere that drifts off the screen
and will remain in your mind as you head for home.
La Piccola Russia > Gianluigi Toccafondo
Italy, 2004 > 16'30
A stunning tour de force of handmade animation, this gorgeous, painterly
film sets a dark drama of love and loneliness in Central Italy.

Admission is restricted to 18+
IMPORTANT: Film classification regulations
do not allow us to admit any person under the age of 18 years EXCEPT
